  15. You MUST run these scripts again, after you upgraded to this

  21. NEW FEATURES
  22.  
  23.  
  24. A4000_ATAPI, A1200_ATAPI & AD_ATAPI
  25.  
  26. Demo or OEM versions of the a4000_atapi.device, a1200_atapi.device
  27. and ad_atapi.device are included. These devices allow the use of IDE 
  28. CD-Roms with bsc/AlfaData AT-Bus controllers (AlfaPower, AT-2008 and AT-508)
  29. and the embedded IDE-port of the A4000, A4000T, A600 and A1200.
  30. To give it a try, connect a CD-Rom to the A4000, A600, A1200 IDE port or an
  31. AlfaData AT-Bus controller and start the Install-CDFS program.
  32. CacheCDFS will use the atapi device automatically.
  33. Full versions are available from Hirsch & Wolf.

  40. Finally I've written a SCSI-II CDDA Audio player.
  41. It is very small and powerful.

  48. If Toshiba_XA (or a similar program) is installed on your machine,
  49. it should be deleted!

  58. Will disable warning requesters during mount.
  59. This is useful, if you have an external CD-Rom drive which is
  60. not always switched on and you wish to leave automount enabled.

  65. If a CD with "real" lowercase characters is inserted, 
  66. the conversions to lowercase are temporary switched off.

  107. The FileSystem now supports MultiSession CDs without the need of
  108. additional tools.

  110. The FileSystem is now able to recognize Audio CDs and can play
  111. them by double clicking the CDDA icon (This only works with SCSI-II
  112. compatible CD-Rom drives!).

  114. Each double click will play/pause the current track.
  115.  
  116. A double-double click (4 times!) will skip to the next track.
  117.  
  118. If you like to use an own icon instead of the default one, copy it
  119. to ENV:CDDA.info BEFORE starting the CacheCDFS.

  121. With the CDFSprefs program you can define an external Audio player
  122. (e.g the new PlayCD) which will be started if you click the CDDA icon.

  124. The FileSystem now supports XA-Disks with Toshiba CD-Roms.
  125. The Toshiba_XA program is obsolete and has been deleted from the
  126. distribution disk.

  128. Typing "Version CD0:" now works.

  130. ACTION_INHIBIT issued by the Workbench task is now ignored, making life
  131. much easier for a poor filesystem programmer.

  134. RockRidge disks are now much better supported.
  135. You can switch between ISO and RockRidge filenames with the preferences
  136. program. Further you can decide if you wish to have RockRidge filenames
  137. case sensitive or not. Thanks go to Angela Schmidt for this suggestion.

  142. CD32-Emulator 43.x
  143.  
  144. Gadgets that are not useful for your configuartion are now ghosted 
  145. (e.g. NoFastMem on ChipMem only machines, NoDataCache on 68020 machines).
  146.  
  147. USE 68040.LIBRARY
  148. Only selectable on machines with an MC68040 or better processor.
  149. The Commodore 68040.library is only loaded, if this gadget is
  150. selected. Some programs (e.g. Oscar or Video Creator) have severe
  151. problems, if this library is loaded. Once the Emulator is initialized
  152. or SetPatch has been run, this gadget will be ghosted and the settings
  153. can't be changed anymore.
  154. If you don't wish to use the commodore 68040.library, a private "dummy" 
  155. 68040.library will be used instead.
  156. Note that this "dummy" library will always disable the DataCache to
  157. work properly with Zorro-III DMA boards.
  158.  
  159. LOAD WORKBENCH
  160. Will load the Workbench immediately BEFORE booting from a CD.
  161. This is required for the game Morph (and possibly others) to run and
  162. sometimes handy for debugging purposes.
  163.  
  164. TOOLTYPE CDWIN ENTRY
  165. This defines the stream, where any output from the startup-sequence of
  166. a CD appears while it is booted.
  167. Previous versions always used NIL: as the output stream which caused
  168. funny effects sometimes.
  169. The default is CDWIN=CON:0/0/700/600/CD-Startup/AUTO/CLOSE, meaning
  170. that the window will only open IF the startup-sequence does any
  171. output.
  172. Usually you shouldn't need to touch this!
  173. To restore default behaviour, simply delete the entry.
  174. Then start the emulator and save settings.
  175.  
  176. Any filename is allowed here.
  177. Examples: 
  178. CDWIN=NIL: will disable any output.
  179. CDWIN=CON:0/0/700/600/CD-Startup/AUTO/CLOSE/WAIT will keep the window
  180. open until you hit the close gadget.
  181. CDWIN=Harddisk:name will write the output to a file on your harddisk.

  184. TOOLTYPE NOAGA ENTRY
  185. For debugging only. Keep your hands off!
  186. Only documented here for all you "ToolTypeWatch" hackers. 
  187. Will disable AA/AGA modes. Works only if SetPatch hasn't been run yet.
  188. Saving settings will always discard this entry.
  189. Is of not much use for you anyway.

  192. CDTV DISCS
  193. If you try to boot from a CDTV disc, a warning requester will appear.
  194. You may now select, if you like to Boot with AA/AGA or ECS emulation.
  195. (Some CDTV Titles do not work correctly with AA/AGA enabled).
  196. This only works if SetPatch has not been run yet!
  197. Again: None of the CDTV specific system modules (e.g. cdtv.device) are 
  198. currently emulated!
  199. Programs using CDTV system modules will NOT work properly, even if they
  200. work with a CD32!

  203. Support for CDROMS faster than double speed
  204. A new gadget was added: Delay p. Block. If your CD-Rom is a triple or
  205. quadruple speed drive, you may add delays between reading of blocks.
  206. Good values should be between 50 and 100 for fast drives.
  207. Leave it to zero, if you have a single or double speed drive.

  211. TIPS
  212.  
  213. Sony CDU-55E (ATAPI drive)
  214. PlayCD & Filesystem changed, that Audio play works with this drive.
  215. One problem exists; if the volume is changed, the drive stops playing.
  216. This is a bug in the drive's firmware.
  217. For this reason, you MUST set "No Volume Control" in the CD32 Emulator
  218. if you want to play CD32 games with this drive.
  219.

  221. SetPatch:
  222. SetPatch 40.14 or better is required by the CD32-Emulator.
  223. SetPatch should NOT be run before you start the CD32-Emulator to get
  224. full control of all features (AA/ECS switch, 68040.library control).
  225. The Emulator will load SetPatch if you click INSTALL or BOOT.
  226. If you quit, SetPatch will not be loaded. This is no problem, as
  227. in case of your normal startup-sequence SetPatch will be loaded
  228. anyway. This strategy should always work for any configuration.

  231. Oktagon/ALF-III/ALF-II users:
  232. For best performance of the emulator, you should use the SoftSCSI#?.device
  233. instead of the oktagon.device or ALF.device.
  234. While installing the software, select the SoftSCSI#?.device from
  235. FindCD and click USE.
  236.  
  237.  
  238. TandemCD / bsc CD1200 users:
  239. New tandemcd#?.devices (version 41.6) are on this disk.
  240. The installer utility will automatically update the appropriate device.
  241.  
  242. Changes made:

  244. Workaround for bug in Mitsumi FX-001D (Rev. D-02) firmware added.
  245.    
  246. This fixes the "Read-Error" problem with some Amiga CDs
  247. (e.g. Megahits 2, GigaPD Update 2).
  248. The drive has to be put in a special "recovery" mode, otherwise
  249. these CDs will cause read errors or other strange behaviour.
  250. The device driver will only switch in this special mode, if
  251. the drive fails to recover with its own built-in error correction 
  252. after 5 read retries.
  253. So, it may take about 10 seconds for the device to switch into
  254. this "special" mode.
  255. This mode will be kept active until you change the disk.
  256. (Gee, this is clever, isn't it?)
  257.  
  258. I know this really is a kludge, but reading these CDs in a clumsy,
  259. slow and non elegant way is far better than not reading them at all!
  260.  
  261. This strategy works fine with my test equipment (A4000/40, TandemCD,
  262. Mitsumi FX-001-D Rev D-02) and the speed is at least acceptable.
  263.  
  264. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS METHOD FIXES YOUR PROBLEMS!

  267. TandemAT / bsc CD1200plus users:
  268. New tandemat#?.devices (version 5.13) are on this disk.
  269. The installer utility will automatically update the appropriate device.

  271. Changes made:
  272. A lot! Got most IDE-Atapi drives to work.
  273. Further you may now use an IDE Harddisk together with a CD-Rom drive
  274. with the Tandem IDE port.
  275. The harddisk should be the master, the CD-Rom the slave drive.
  276. The harddisk needs the file "AT" in your Sys:Expansion drawer to work.
  277. Sorry, this does not yet work with the CD1200plus.

  281. 68040 users:
  282. Machine crashes before loading the CD32-Emulator:
  283.  
  284. In general, you should NOT use the Commodore 68040.library for playing
  285. CD32-Titles! Most titles do NOT work properly with the 68040.library!
  286. Make sure, that SetPatch or Enforcer are NOT run before you
  287. start the CD32-Emulator, as they WILL load the 68040.library!
  288.  
  289. First solution: Try to get the obsolete 68040.library version 37.4
  290. from Commodore (the version shipped with Workbench 3.0 is 37.10, the
  291. version shipped with Workbench 3.1 is 37.30). Version 37.4 doesn't make
  292. so much problems with CD32 games.
  293.  
  294. If your machine crashes or behaves strange while loading the emulator
  295. (which should never happen!), try the following:
  296.  
  297. - Make a Boot floppy with "Make CD32 Floppy"
  298. - Edit the startup-sequence.
  299.   Add "C:SetPatch QUIET NOCACHE" before the emulator is started.
  300.  
  301. If now all works fine, but you have titles not running correctly with
  302. the Commodore 68040.library, try this:
  303.  
  304. - Delete the 68040.library from the Boot Floppy.
  305.   Delete DF0:LIBS/68040.library
  306.  
  307. - Copy the 68040_dummy.library (locacted in your CD32 directory) to the 
  308.   LIBS: directory of the Boot Floppy and rename it to 68040.library.
  309.   Copy .../CD32/68040_dummy.library to DF0:LIBS/68040.library
  310.  
  311. Check the spelling! Do not use uppercase letters!
  312.  
  313. If the 68040_dummy.library does not work with your 68040 board, you are
  314. out of luck. Please give me a note if this happens!

  318. BUG FIXES & OTHER ENHANCEMENTS
  319.

  321. Since the first release (Disk 1.3), the following bugs were fixed:

  324. CDFS Install script:

  326. Added quotes around device name, as this is required by older mount
  327. commands.

  331. CD32-Emulator (control module):

  333. NOWININIT was broken! If NOWININIT was specified in the ToolTypes,
  334. the other tooltype settings were not interpreted correctly.
  335. This bug was reported by Keith Smith of Almathera Systems, otherwise
  336. it would have be still unnoticed.

  339. GAME STORE requester opened not relative to the current directory.
  340.  
  341. Now interprets the CDs startup-sequence before executing it, leaving
  342. out any commands dangerous for your system. This greatly enhances
  343. compatibility (e.g. Video Creator does not crash anymore if you
  344. click "BOOT". In fact, it was the NoReset program that crashed the
  345. machine!).
  346.  
  347. Having a seperate output stream enhances compatibility with PD-Disks
  348. (e.g. The Demo Collection) designed for the CDTV.
  349.  
  350. Booting now happens as a seperate process, allowing the emulation
  351. to free all no longer used resources after the boot sequence has been
  352. started.
  353.  
  354. Device checking is now performed in the control module (was in cd.device).
  355. Errors generated, if device is no CD-Rom or CD-Rom doesn't support SCSI-2.

  359. CD32-Emulator install scripts:

  361. Line 120 of the "Make CD32 Floppy" script was bogus.
  362.  
  363. The scripts omitted the use of the Commodore 68040.library.
  364. Bad idea, since this crashes on machines with Zorro-III DMA
  365. controllers or Second-Level cache 68040 boards.
  366. The CD32-Emulator gives you now more sophisticated control over
  367. 68040.library use (see above) by adding an own "dummy" 68040.library
  368. and should NEVER EVER crash again (hopefully)!

  418. As a well behaving filesystem, CacheCDFS sometimes uses SCSIF_AUTOSENSE.
  419. This confused older Fastlane controllers (this time not my fault!).
  420. Workaround for these controllers added. Fixed since Disk release 1.3a.

  422. Starting with version 41.x, CacheCDFS can read CDs with a logical sector
  423. size different from 2048 bytes (e.g. required by the Fish & More III CD
  424. from Xetec).

  426. Added dynamic changes depending on the CD inserted to the fssm environment
  427. for the 42.x release.
  428. This was requested by Angela Schmidt for future development.

  430. NOTE FOR DEVELOPERS:
  431. If the a CD is changed while the FileSystem is inhibited, the fssm
  432. enviromnemt will NOT change!
  433. If you detect a disk change, you MUST do an ACTION_INHIBIT FALSE for
  434. the environment to become valid again.
